My ankles have ankles

Or something like that.  I got home from dinner Friday night and they were the size of softballs.  That is no exaggeration... and I wish I had the balls to post the pics.  However, half of my feet (from toes to mid-foot) look like Skeletor and the other half (mid-foot to what used to be my ankle) looks like the Stay-Puft Marshmellow man.  Okay, enough 80's metaphors.

Since I'm not going to post pics of my feet, I'll post pics of something else.  I'm confined to the couch for the day, so I have nothing else to do.

So here we have the snow that I promised you weeks ago, 24 week belly pics, and PLENTY of pictures of my baby dog!  You're welcome.  Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend while I'm laid up on the couch!

Snow in the South

The beginning of our first big snow in about 10 years...

And a gratuitous shot of my dog...

Hope everyone is staying warm!  I'm sure I'll have more pics tomorrow!

I haz a baaad puppy

Duke gets very upset when we leave him at home alone, especially after a long weekend when we have spent the majority of our time with him-- better yet, sitting on the couch and allowing him to lounge in our laps.  He has been pitching a fit all week when we left him to go to work.

So I get home last night and he has jumped over his baby gate, pulled trash out of the trash can, and jumped back over the gate*.  Hey, I said he was bad, not stupid.  When I walked through the kitchen door, his ears were flat and he would not even look at me.  Because he KNEW he was baaad and that he was in major trouble.

It just so happens that I was on the phone with my mother when I entered the kitchen.  The mess wasn't awful and was an easy clean, but of course I had to "discipline" him anyway.  He had run into the hall as soon as I let him out, and he crawled back into the kitchen begging for forgiveness**.

It is a little hard to tell, but he is squatted down, moving at a snail's pace.

And as I was scolding him, my mother laughed and said, "If that is your idea of being strict, your kids are going to laugh at you!"  Thanks Mom.  I must admit, I'm a sucker for those puppy dog eyes.  And he is so snuggly and sweet... yep, I'm going to suck at the discipline part of this motherhood thing.  Oh well.

*He stays in the sun room, which is attached to the kitchen.  There is a doorway between the two where we put the baby gate.
**The house was built in the 50's, people... the kitchen is next on the remodel list.

At least the camera is new

Disclaimer:  J and I live in his grandmother's old house.  When I say old, I mean "built back in the stone ages."  We are remodeling, but you will not see our handiwork in any of the pics below.  I am fairly sure that after posting these, I will feel compelled to post before and after pics of the work we have done...

I was not exactly up to being Martha Stewart for Christmas this year.  Maybe when my house is fully renovated and I don't feel like sleeping until June, I will be a little more creative.  Anyway, behold our lovely Christmas decorations....
The front of the house

Our Christmas tree (please note the beautiful Swarovski crystal J at the top), after the gifts had all been opened.

The stockings were hung on the deer antlers with care (please again, note the disclaimer... and yes, I know that technically we could take it down, but the walls are discolored from it being there for so long)

My nutcracker

Okay, I didn't go all out this year, but at least I did something, right?  And there are a few other decorative pieces around the house, but I didn't feel like taking pictures of everything.  Alright, that is not true.  I did feel like taking pictures.  Just not of Christmas decorations...

So there you have it.  Christmas madness at my house.  I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday!

Dear Duke,

You have been such a sweet little monster puppy lately.  I have thoroughly enjoyed having you curled up practically on top of me every night.  It was almost as if you could tell that I wasn't feeling well and you just wanted to comfort me.

All of that considered, I feel that I should offer you an apology since I yelled at you this morning.  It wasn't your fault that you got sick... twice... in massive piles the size of your 35+ pound body.  (By the way, someone please explain to me how an animal of his size can throw up SO FREAKIN MUCH.)  Mama just can't handle the sight, smells, and everything else that came with dog vomit so early in the morning.  And I am sorry that I left you outside in the cold while I dry heaved over the toilet.

Here is a suggestion, you can take it or leave it, how about try to chew your food instead of sucking it down like a Hoover, mmmkay?

xoxo,
Mama
